Borne To Be Wild

On the August long weekend we had the pleasure of being hosts to Jill and Pete, so we decided to show them why we love the west coast and all it has to offer.

They arrived around midnight and we went straight to bed, for four hours. We stopped at the Cypress Mountain view point on our way to catch the 6:00AM ferry to Vancouver Island. The two hour boat ride is quite scenic as you weave through islands in Howe Sound and cross the Georgia Straight finally landing in Nanaimo. Yes the chocolate dessert bar is named after this city. From Nanaimo we made our way north and east, stopping only to see some goats chilling on a roof and to take a refreshing dip in one of the many rivers. Our final destination was the Tonquin Beach Suite in Tofino. Tofino in a small town known for its rugged landscape, amazing beaches, surfing and access to amazing wilderness.

We spent the weekend visiting old growth forests, filled with trees over 1500 years old. Watching whales, otters and sea lions while flying over waves in a zodiac. Having drinks on oceanside patios as bald eagles zip by over our heads. Relaxing on beaches and starring off into breathtaking sunsets.

Jill and Pete, a little shout out to you two, thank you for visiting and thank you for jumping in with no reservations and seizing every moment with us. We hope to have opened your souls to the wonderful west coast and that if you ever hear the waves or feel the mountains calling you that you’ll come back and we will do it all over again.

  1. Well done! This brings back all of the great times we shared … it was so much fun. You kept us busy and the bruises have faded away, but the pictures will be looked at again and again so we can keep the memories alive. Thanks for sharing! Jill xo
